During the summer of 2008, twenty-four students left their homes in the United States, exchanged their shorts
and sandals for long dresses and pioneer pants, and set off on a two-week journey on the Oregon and California
Trails traveling by wagon train in Wyoming and Oregon. Like the 19th Century pioneers they were “In Pursuit of a
Dream.” Click here to learn more about this new documentary sponsored by OCTA >

Included are the OCTA presentations on mapping and monitoring as well as a preservation strategy. There is also material on the BLM’s Visual Resource Management (VRM) system by Gary Long. The Lander Office of the Bureau of Land Management has undertaken a revision of their Resource Management Plan (RMP). As part of that effort they will examine various options for improving the protection of South Pass.
The OCTA Preservation Strategy describes a broad strategy for preserving and protecting the physical
remains of historic trails and their setting. It also includes an initial plan for implementing
that strategy. This strategy has been developed from the perspective of public
partnership organizations who have taken on a stewardship role for an historic trail. It
does not reflect the perspectives of the federal or state agencies responsible for
management or oversight of the trails.
