John Hollman Gravesite

John Hollman's headstone

Nothing is known of the person of John Hollman. The inscription on the headstone is almost illegible. A nearby State of Nebraska marker contains the inscription: "JOHN HOLLMAN DIED JUNE 5 1852." In a letter, the noted trail expert, Paul C. Henderson, suggested that Hollman may have been from Indiana. Several years ago, erosion threatened the headstone which was reset in a more central position over the grave.

The grave is located on private property, but is open to the public. To reach it, drive south on Highway 27 from Oshkosh, Nebraska. Cross the North Platte River bridge, then turn right onto a graveled county road. Drive 1/10 mile west and the Hollman grave is to your right (north) atop a knoll.
