Online adventures on the Oregon Trail
Have you have ever thought about throwing all of your possessions into the back of your car and heading out for parts unknown? If so, then you already know the feeling that propelled hundreds of thousands of emigrants westward in the mid-1800s.
Interactive Trail
In less than three decades, before the continent was linked by the transcontinental railroad, half a million men, women and children followed emigrant trails. No matter the reason for the journey, all shared common adventures. Every day of a journey that might ultimately cover 2,000 miles and take six months, consisted of grueling toil and travel. Wagons passed through seemingly endless prairie, struggled up and down steep mountains, forded rivers and streams, and crossed sun-baked desserts.
