Join NWOCTA for the annual Fall Picnic September 20, 9:30 - 3:00, at Borst Park in Centralia.
Living History performer Karen Haas will present “Narcissa Whitman: A Lady at the Crossroads.” As a missionary to the Cayuse Indians, Narcissa Whitman was at the center of a cultural inter-section. Using the text of Narcissa’s letters as well as portions of her beloved hymns, Karen portrays Narcissa Whitman as she shares her challenges, sorrows, and joys.
There will be a chance to see the Territorial Express Stage Coach, and you will have the opportunity to purchase a commemorative items including tee-shirts at $10.00 and special post marked envelopes at $5.00 each or six for $20.00. The envelopes will be carried to the end of the Run and from there forwarded by USPS to the purchaser's designated envelope address. Last year's envelopes have become collector items.
Members of the Ezra Meeker HIstorical Society will be attending the chapter picnic, bringing the Meeker Wagon, to talk briefly about their plans to celebrate the Oregon Sesquicentennial. They are proposing to conduct a mini-Meeker Wagon trip in Oregon next June, currently thinking about a five-day trip covering Oregon City to Medford (with stops in between).
